The tasks as a cutting machine operator

Machinists typically work in metal and plastics processing companies in trade and industry: among others, in machine and light metal construction, in the automotive industry, in medical technology or in aerospace technology. After receiving a production order, they plan the production process and get to work - manually or (now almost always) mechanically.

Working with CNC machine tools requires, among other things, computer know-how: In order to produce a precision workpiece as desired, the machine tool must be precisely programmed beforehand. Then the metal piece to be machined is expertly clamped, the machine is started and the production process is monitored. If, despite all the care taken, a problem should arise, the cutting machine operator will find the cause and rectify the problem.

Training and requirements

Machinists must be able to calculate lengths, areas, volumes and angles - for this they need good maths skills, especially in geometry. In addition, prospective apprentices should be well versed in physics in order to be able to determine material properties such as load-bearing capacity or ductility. Apart from that, the companies expect a high level of technical-practical understanding, spatial thinking skills and the necessary language skills.

What does this training mean at W. MÜLLER?

With us you always work on real projects. You will work in the production department in our production hall. It can get noisy here and you work very practically. So you are just right if you don't always want to sit at a desk.

Turning and milling technology will become your hobbyhorse.

You will produce components after you have written the programs for processing and tool adjustment yourself. You will learn the CNC and 5-axis milling and the 2 ½D and 3D programming with the common program CAM.

You have the opportunity to gain an insight into all our manufacturing processes and other departments, as we have a very open and logical manufacturing and assembly network.
